Fans of Nokia's Lumia range of smartphone devices may be able to charge their devices wirelessly in the future.
Nokia's design chief Marko Ahtisaari told the Guardian the firm is looking at this as a possible future development of the handsets.
New versions of the product are set to have plastic tab covering the micro-USB charger removed.
"If you can take away a moving part and make it more beautiful in the placement of the components, we'll do it," Mr Ahtisaari explained, adding: "Take it to the extreme, and why are there any connectors?"
It was suggested this could be achieved through the use of Near Field Communications technology in order to connect external devices without a physical link.
This development could be accessible to people looking for cheap smartphones as well as those who splash out on the latest devices, as the recently-released Lumia 710 has been described as the most affordable Windows Phone on the market.
