People 'use the internet to make savings'

02/02/2012

The internet is increasingly being used to seek out cheap deals, according to an expert.

Many people may be taking advantage of internet websites to look for cheap deals on consumer goods and other items.

Director of Ark Financial Planning Phil Perry said this particularly applies to the younger generation, who are savvier online.

He attributed this to the success of price comparison and group buying sites, claiming this is particularly relevant for those who are attempting to set money aside for big ticket items such as the deposit on a house.

These sites were also credited with increasing awareness of this trend when people are looking to purchase other consumer goods such as smartphones.

"It a lot easier for [people] to do the research online to check what it is they actually need and find the best rates that are available," Mr Perry remarked.

More people may be doing this with their mobile handset while on-the-go, as commerce sales leader for IBM Europe David Hoggs claimed this is a growing trend.
